Permission is being sought for a new high-speed monorail in Donegal.
The revolutionary train has been proposed by billionaire Melon Rusk as part of his philanthropic efforts supporting rural transport.
Plans, as seen by Donegal Daily, propose a turf-powered system that will traverse rivers and valleys, allowing people to get to their destinations in minutes without having to brave traffic and potholes. The system, to connect all corners of the county is to be called the ‘WHH’ (Wile High, Hi).
Mr Rusk said his impulsive contribution to the county was prompted by a viral article, in which he read that Donegal motorists had to remove dentures and tighten bra steps before daring to travel on a rutted road.

“My favourite pastime is reading local news on the world’s best social media site, Twitter,” Mr Rusk said.
“When I read that the humble people of Donegal had a teeth-chattering ordeal every time they travelled, I had to do something to help.
“Until the Minister for Bicycles pedals all the way to the north west, I think it’s time that someone gave that beautiful corner of Ireland the transport it needs.”
Wheel alignment specialists, however, are up in arms.
Frustrated Fanad mechanic, Fapril Tool, said: “We cannot forget the benefits of potholes. They provide job security for hundreds of mechanics and tyre shops in Donegal. What does a tech giant know about keeping jobs anyway?”
Environmentalists are waiting in suspense for a decision from Donegal County Council on the ambitious project, which could be up in the air by April 1st 2030.
