Donegal’s Indian cuisine scene has an exciting new addition!

The Curry Cottage, which opened on Main Street Stranorlar just five months ago, has picked up the title of Best Newcomer in the Irish Restaurant Awards Ulster final.

Owned by brothers and best friends Raj and Jony Ahmed, the pair make the perfect team as they blend their skills in food and hospitality.

The Curry Cottage has quickly become a favourite among locals and visitors alike, with its warm atmosphere and authentic food. Guests can dine in the modern surroundings, or enjoy dishes at home with a takeaway or delivery.

Raj and Jony, who hail from Bangladesh, have worked in hospitality all their lives. Raj is the front-of-house manager and the self-confessed chatty one, while Jony quietly perfects his signature dishes in the kitchen. Raj holds an Honours degree from the National College of Ireland in Dublin in Business Management and has 12 years of front-of-house management experience. Chef Jony has 15 years of culinary experience, having trained at ‘Curry King’ Tommy Miah’s Hospitality Management Institute in Bangladesh.

“Our passion is hospitality, we aim to deliver next-level service and cuisine,” Raj says.

“Being a family-run restaurant means we are hands-on with every aspect of the business. We are delighted that the business is doing well and the five star reviews continue coming in.

“People say they have never tasted Indian food like ours.”

The ‘Best Newcomer’ award scooped by The Curry Cottage last week is a testament to the team’s hard work establishing their dream business.

Raj and Jony say they are very grateful to customers for their support and would like to thank new and future customers alike.

If you haven’t had the chance to visit this award-winning restaurant yet, why not visit during the Easter holidays and try out the menu?
