March may have had rain most days, but one Donegal weather station recorded Ireland’s only below-average rainfall level last month.
Finner in south Donegal had zero ‘very wet’ days in March. The monthly rainfall value was 90% (93.2 mm).
Met Eireann’s climate statement for March 2023 described the month’s weather as “unusually wet and dull”, but Donegal bucked the trends.
It wasn’t just south Donegal that had a break from the rain.
Malin Head also recorded the lowest number of ‘wet days’ in Ireland at 18 days, while Roche’s Point, Co Cork and Valentia Observatory, Co Kerry recorded the wettest weather with 23 days of rain. Malin Head had the lowest number of dull days too, at 6 days.
Donegal still holds the title of the ‘coolest place’ too, as Finner had the highest number of days with air frost in March alongside Markree in Sligo.
