Gerard ‘The Monk’ Hutch has been found not guilty of the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in February 2016.

The 60-year-old was acquitted by the non-jury Special Criminal Court this afternoon.

Hutch denied the murder of David Byrne during a boxing weigh-in in Dublin on 5th February 2016. He spent more than a year in custody in Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison as the trial took place.

Mr Hutch’s two co-accused, Paul Murphy 61, of Cherry Avenue, Swords, Dublin, and Jason Bonney, 52, of Drumnigh Wood, Portmarnock, Dublin 13, have been found guilty of providing a motor vehicle to a criminal organisation on February 5, 2016. The court was satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that the men acted as getaway drivers during the notorious attack.

Defence Counsel for Gerard Hutch, last of The Paddocks, Clontarf, Dublin 3, has asked the court for his immediate release.
