One of Donegal’s most expensive parcels of land has been sold, Donegal Daily can confirm.

The 8.23 acre site in the heart of Letterkenny had a price-tag of a cool €4,000,000.

The land at High Road, behind the Letterkenny Fire Station and opposite Mac’s Deli, was placed on the market last year by local estate agent, DNG Boyce Gallagher.

Mr Henry McCahey, director of Boyce Gallagher, confirmed the sale this evening to Donegal Daily.

“I can confirm that the sale has been closed,” he said.

“There was a huge amount of interest from all over Ireland and abroad.”

Mr McCahey refused to comment on the sale price or the identity of the buyer. However, it is understood the new owner is from Donegal and that the site will be used for much needed housing.

Centrally and conveniently located at the top of the High Road, the site offers plenty of road frontage within metres of Letterkenny Main Street.

Planning permission was granted for the 8.23 acre site in 2004 for a development comprising six retail units, 190 apartments, 17 duplex units and 18 townhouses.

“While this planning permission has since expired, we believe that due to the high level of demand in the town, permission for an even more substantial development may be achievable,” Mr McCahey said last year when the property when on the market.

The site is Zoned ‘Established Development/Mixed Usage’ in the County Development Plan 2018-2024 and could lend itself to an array of development opportunities.
