The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team has confirmed they have become the victim of an online hoax funding scam.
The voluntary group, which does such tremendous work, have been targeted by hackers.
Online hoaxers targeted the team’s website by hackers claiming to be selling merchandise.
A spokesperson for DMRT said “We have been hit with an influx of spam today and previously about the selling of DMRT merchandise.
“These people also tag certain followers from certain posts to target individuals specifically.”
“We would like to clarify that this is NOT us. We do not currently have any DMRT supporter merchandise for sale so please, if you see these posts, do report them as spam/unofficial sales so as to deter the continuation of these fake posts.
“Do not attempt to purchase these items due to the risk of you being caught in a scam.”
