However, he failed to wake up after going to sleep in his tent.

Letterkenny man Black is currently climbing in the Himalayas and has climbed many times with the latre Mr Hanna who was from Co Down.

Jason said “Sadly word has just reached us here high the Himalayas that my climbing partner and mountain friend Noel Hanna has died on Annapurna. It’s beyond belief… shocking and stunned.

“We climbed Everest together we successfully battled the mighty K2 together and have shared so many great moments and mountains together Noel.

“Sitting here high in the Himalayas it’s hard to even write this or comprehend that we have just lost Ireland’s greatest mountaineer.”

Jason sent his deepest condolences to Noel’s wife Lynne and his family.
