Gardai have launched a murder investigation after a 24-year-old man died after being attacked at a hostel in Dublin earlier today.
The incident happened at Harrington House on the southside of the city centre.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned at a Dublin garda station.
Gardaí said they received a report of a man with serious injuries at the hostel on Harrington Street at 4.45am.
The victim was taken to St James’s Hospital, but later died from his injuries.
It appears he may have been stabbed following a row with another resident.
Both were staying in separate rooms and one appears to have gone in to the other man’s room, where the row broke out.
The detained man can be questioned for up to 24 hours. He has also received medical attention and been seen by a doctor.
The scene has been preserved for an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The State Pathologist’s Office has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place later today.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact Kevin Street Garda Station on 01 666 9400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
