All Ulster Bank Branches in the Republic of Ireland will permanently close today.

The Letterkenny branch was Donegal’s last remaining branch to remain open until the 21st April deadline.

Ulster Bank services through An Post outlets ceased on 31st March 2023, as well as all transactional services other than support with account closure requests.

As of the end of March, 167,988 current accounts remained open in Ulster Bank and KBC Bank. Over 60,000 of these were deemed by the banks as the customer’s “primary” account.

Dedicated phonelines and supports are in place across Ireland five retail banks to help vulnerable customers moving bank account.

Customers, or their carers, who feel they require additional assistance are being encouraged to contact their bank as soon as possible.

Safeguarding Ireland Chairperson Patricia Rickard-Clarke added: “It is important to remember that all of us can face challenges at different times in our lives for a variety of reasons, ranging from diminished cognitive ability, serious illness, sudden life events such as bereavement, and language or communication challenges, among others. While some customers can navigate the steps involved in moving account with extra support from their bank, others may need the help of a trusted family member, carer or a legal representative. If you are a customer or the carer of a customer who requires additional or tailored support, the most important thing is to just pick up the phone and talk to your bank.”
