Gaoth Dobhair and Donegal star Daire Ó Baoill says his team are in the right frame of mind going into today’s much-anticipated Ulster Championship opener against Down in Newry (throw-in 2pm).
The no-nonsense 27-year-old knows exactly what the fans expect of a Donegal team when it comes to the championship.
Ó Baoill says the Donegal squad have “closed the door” on the Paddy Carr exit and a poor league campaign which saw them relegated from Division One.
But he said the team have put in a solid four week block of training and are now “fine-tuned” to take on Down today.
The West Donegal player admits that Down are never an easy obstacle to overcome and were unlucky not to be promoted to Division Two of the league.
But he suggests that his side are ready to take on that challenge and have plenty in their armoury to worry Down.
The winners of today’s encounter face an improving Armagh side who disposed of Cavan yesterday.
An ice-cool Ó Baoill spoke to Charlie Collins ahead of today’s game.
