Part of stolen community sign found dumped along river

Part of a community-owned tourist information sign has been found dumped in west Donegal.

The structure (below), erected by Doochary Development, was stolen from the side of the Owennamarve last Thursday.

The metal frame of the sign was found dumped along a different section of the river yesterday.

According to the group, it was discovered in an area already searched last Friday.

“The frame work for the heritage sign at Owennamarve was spotted dumped down the embankment of the river, minus the information board,” a spokesperson for the group said.

“This (frame) was not there on Friday when the incident was reported by us and not there when garda investigating went out. Whilst we are relieved to have this back, we are still at odds as to the reason for its removal and would ask people with dashcams who have travelled the road over the past few days to check over their footage to see if any more information as to who did this can be obtained.”

The theft is the latest in a long list of criminal acts involving works carried out by the voluntary not-for-profit group over the past two years.

If anyone has information in relation to any of the above incidents, they should contact Milford Garda Station on 074-9153060 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.
