Retention permission sought for Letterkenny motocross track

A popular local motorcycle club has applied for planning permission for an existing motocross track in Letterkenny.

The Errigal Motorcycle Club is seeking permission from Donegal County Council to retain their race track, time-keeper container and speakers at Ballyraine.

The motorcycle track was constructed on a disused Golf Club on lands behind the Pin Tavern. The track hosts an average of 80 riders during events four times per year.

A noise test was submitted as part of the application to show that noise levels were below limits.

In their submission, organisers said they have been running events for Errigal Motocross in and around Letterkenny for over thirty years and to date have not had any incidents involving public transport. They reported that the location has a steady flow of traffic Monday to Friday while two businesses (Pin Tavern and Top Spares) operate using the existing entrance. Taking into consideration the small number of people attending, these Sunday events and the phased entry and exit to the site, they said that the traffic associated with the development will bare no negative or significant impact on the existing traffic using the Ramelton Road.
