The Local Horse and Pony Racing got underway last Sunday in Carndonagh and it didn’t disappoint as some fantastic finishes were witnessed by the good crowd that turned up.
Donegal has been a good breeding ground for jockeys that have gone on to better things with the likes of Oisin Orr Luke Mc Ateer and Letterkenny star Dylan Browne Mc Monagle but we could have another rising star in the shape of Ballyare man Patrick Mc Gettigan (pictured above) who recorded his first ever double.
Patrick got the ball rolling when he gave Wee Bucks a perfectly judged ride in the 148cm ponies making all and stayed on strongly to fend off all challengers and doubled up on Fiadh’s Fancy coming from off the pace for a stylish win in the 153cm pony race.
Another Letterkenny man Brodie Ferry who is looking to follow in the footsteps of his idol Dylan Browne Mc Monagle got his first winner in the Northwest when making all on Little Lioness in the 128cm pony race.
Tiernan Mc Gill who hails from Finntown was collared late on in the 143cm on board his own pony Swilly Spirit and it shouldn’t be all that long till this boy gets in to the winners’ circle in the coming weeks.
Racing resumes on Sunday week in Navan Co Meath at 1pm.
