He was never a man who like attention or adulation.

Instead, he allowed his newspaper headlines and groundbreaking stories to do the talking.

So readers can imagine how Letterkenny man Pat McArt may have felt a little uncomfortable in the Guildhall in Derry yesterday.

The former editor of the Derry Journal received a presentation in recognition of his contribution and commitment to journalism in the city and district.

Among those who accompanied Mr McArt were his wife Rosie, members of his family and also many former colleagues.

The presentation was made by the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Sandra Duffy.

Born in Church Lane in Letterkenny, Mr McArt previously worked for the Donegal News and RTE before joining the Derry Journal as editor in 1981 before he retired in 2006.
