Rail enthusiasts may find interest in a new online map which traces Ireland’s historical rail network – including the routes of Donegal’s railway past.
Students from Atlantic Technological University – Galway City’s BA in Heritage undertook two years of research to map the historical rail network for the Island of Ireland. They have mas this data freely available to the public this week.
The resource is available through https://www.atu.ie/irish-rail-
The map was developed with the support of Iarnród Éireann, and the generous assistance of Stephen Johnson, whose printed Atlas and Gazetteer of the Railways of Ireland from 1997 has been a much sought after reference guide in that time.
