Letterkenny’s Polestar to glow yellow for Darkness Into Light

Organisers of Darkness Into Light Letterkenny have shared their delight after a kind-hearted volunteer answered their call to light the Polestar Roundabout in yellow tonight.

Liam O’Hara, from O’Hara and Harrison Ltd, will be lighting the roundabout for tomorrow’s sunrise walk in aid of Pieta.

Last month, the committee called out to the community in the hope of finding a skilled contractor to erect extra spotlights on the Polestar. Due to budget constraints, Donegal County Council was unable to carry out the work.

The Polestar roundabout is a key feature on the route of the Letterkenny walk/run, which attracts up to 1,000 people annually.

This year will be the 10th anniversary of the Pieta fundraiser in Letterkenny.

The organising committee have issued their gratitude to Liam O’Hara and to the fabulous team at Tobin’s garage who will be lighting the garage up yellow as well.

The walk will launch from An Danlann at the ATU Campus from 4:15 am on the morning of Saturday May 6th.

Chairperson of DIL Letterkenny 2023 Karen Quinn said: “On behalf of the entire committee, we just to thank the local community for their endless generosity and kindness. Everything that is given to us, services, donations, skills or time, does not go by unnoticed. Each year we have the lovely job of visiting businesses, schools and community groups to thank them for their involvement.

“There’s always a very special moment when we get the opportunity to meet with our supporters: you see nothing but smiles and hear nothing but laughter. This is what really captures the essence of this event, and what makes Darkness into Light so special.

“We as a community of people come together not only to raise essential funds for Pieta, but also unite for a cause that emphasizes to others that they are not alone.

“Donegal has really shined brightly this year, and we cannot thank everyone enough for that.”

Darkness Into Light raises vital funds every year so that Pieta can continue to deliver its nationwide intervention and bereavement therapy, providing counselling nationally by video, phone and in-person at one it its centres in 20 locations nationwide.
