Letterkenny Gaels came out on top against Gaeil Fhánada in the Division 2 NRB U17 Final played in Downings on Monday evening.
Fanad held the early advantage and were three points to two up after fifteen minutes with Letterkenny Gaels scores coming from Tiarnan Callaghan McElwaine and Andrew Nicholls.
With the cross field wind making scoring difficult, Letterkenny Gaels tried to work the ball in closer to goal and were finally rewarded when Kevin Condron got on the end of a great team move to palm the ball into the net to give the Letterkenny men a one point advantage at halftime (1-02 to 0-04)
With a slight wind advantage in the second half, Letterkenny Gaels were getting on more and more of the ball and took control of the game around the middle of the park.
They notched up a number of impressive points from play with Cathal Doherty, Michael Sweeney, Callum McGilloway all getting on the scoresheet.
Fanad did rally late on and only an impressive save from Dan Mac an Bhaird prevented them from hitting the net.
When the final whistle blew the Letterkenny men celebrated their victory as captain Dáithí McDaid was presented with the cup.
