Donegal-born priest’s delight as over €40K raised for African projects

A Donegal-born priest has thanked the people of the county for their ‘incredible support’ in raising more than €40,000 for his ongoing work in Africa.

Fr Kevin O’Hara, from Stranorlar, is a St Patrick’s Missionary Priest who has worked in Nigeria for over 40 years.

A champion for human rights, he founded the Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Centre in Eastern Nigeria and The Centre for Social and Corporate Responsibility.

The popular priest was at home in the Twin Towns. He launched an appeal for funds in the impoverished country.

“Thanks to those who organised the coffee weekend and those who worked tirelessly in the Parish Centre,” Fr O’Hara said.

“Thanks to those, too, who made personal donations and who donated through the bank account. And, thanks to the people of Glenfin who supported Annie B Gallagher’s coffee afternoon in her own home. All of this will be a great support to people who need it so desperately. The funds will go a long way in providing social justice for African people and providing a way out of poverty through education.”

Anyone who wishes to donate can still do so via his account at the AIB Bank, Ballybofey, using the following bank account details: Account name Fr Kevin O’Hara; Account number 23942-109 and IBAN IE11AIBK93736323942109.

You can also contact him by email kevinpatohara@gmail.com

In 2020, Fr O’Hara was one of 14 recipients of the Presidential Distinguished Service Awards and was honoured in the Peace, Reconciliation & Development category.
