Donegal gardaí encourage dog owners to microchip their pets

Gardaí in Donegal are calling on dog owners to chip and register their pets.

Lost family dogs are regularly handed into Garda Stations but locating their owners can prove very difficult for the Gardaí.

Microchipping and registering a pet is a simple procedure that can help Gardaí out with the speedy identification of the many lost or stole dogs that they temporarily care for in stations every month.

Your pet’s vet will microchip your dog, along with a growing number of Local Authorities and animal welfare groups. It is the law since 2016.

To be compliant with the Animal Health and Welfare Act, Gardaí are asking all dog owners to follow the two-step process: chip and register your dog on an approved database so you’ll have a microchipping certificate to hand.

With dog ownership comes responsibility. Gardaí are asking all dog owners to care for their pet in a responsible manner.
