A young Donegal man has been seriously injured in Australia after being flung from the roof of his own vehicle in an attempt to stop it from being stolen.
Lee McCarron, from the Drumfries area of Inishowen, suffered serious head injuries when he was thrown from a moving vehicle in an incident in Perth on May 1st.
The 25-year-old had noticed someone inside his Ford Ranger, which was parked outside his home in the Noranda area. He grabbed onto the roof rack to try and stop the thief from taking it, but the thief drove on.
CCTV footage has been shared by Australian news channels showing Lee holding onto the vehicle while shouting for help.
The vehicle then crashed into a parked car, throwing Lee onto the road. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries to his head. The thief did not stop.
The Inishowen Independent reports that Lee’s parents have travelled to Perth to be by their son’s side as he recovers.
Detectives in Perth are continuing their investigations into the incident.
