Planned water main replacement works in the Finn Valley have been welcomed.

Cathaoirleach of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District, Cllr Patrick McGowan,  said he received confirmation of progress on the issue from Irish Water.

“In addition, this will allow road resurfacing jobs to go ahead as well in the area, especially on the way into Castlefinn where the road is very bad,” he said.

A spokesperson for Irish Water confirmed that the following mains rehabilitation projects are in train or planned for progression in the Lough Mourne network in 2023:

  • St Johnstone Cast Iron – Length: 2630m. The project is now complete, with permanent reinstatement completion date to be confirmed next week.
  • Aughagault Drumkeen – Length: 1295m. Scheduled to be completed in Q2 2023.
  • Castlefinn Reservoir Cast Iron – Length: 890m. Scheduled to be completed in Q2 2023
  • Liscooley to Castlefinn Cast Iron – Length: 3425m. Scheduled to be completed in Q3-Q4 2023.

“This is a significant investment in improving the water network in the Lifford-Stranolar Municipal District and will improve issues with outages and water quality. Emerging needs will continue to be reviewed on an on-going basis,” the water utility said.

“In addition to mains rehabilitation, Uisce Éireann have a dedicated leak detection crew assigned to the Lough Mourne WSZ, which are assisting to improve network operations also.”
