Work to begin on new Gaelscoil in Donegal Town

Construction work is to begin on a new building for Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí in Donegal town in the coming weeks, it has been announced.

A contractor has been appointed, and work is to begin onsite at the end of the month.

The progress has been greeted as good news for the school community that had to stage protests last month when the government paused funding for 58 school projects nationwide.

Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí, which has approx 70 students, has been housed in prefabs for the past 24 years.

Independent TD Thomas Pringle said students and teachers and the larger school community have been waiting so long for their new school and working so hard to make sure it happened.

He said: “I want to credit the school community: When the Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí was one of the school building projects put on hold earlier this year, the school community came out to protest the decision and made their voices heard.

“Now that the decision to pause the projects has been reversed, and the work will begin,” he said.
