May 15, 2023

A man has pleaded guilty to the possession of cocaine in Letterkenny with intent to sell or supply.

Amin Rhamahi was formally arraigned when he appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The 47-year-old is in custody at Castlerea prison and was brought to Letterkenny courthouse for the purpose of the arraignment.

Rhamahi was charged with being in possession of a controlled drug, namely cocaine, for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying it to others, at Listillion, Letterkenny, on August 26, 2022.

Rhamahi spoke only to plead guilty to the charge.

Patricia McLaughlin BL, barrister for the State, said the plea was accepted as an early plea.

Colm Smyth SC, Rhamahi’s barrister, instructed by solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien, said his client was a man with no previous convictions.

Judge John Aylmer requested the preparation of a probation and welfare report, to include an assessment of suitability for community service.

A report from the governor of Castlerea Prison is also to be sought.

Rhamahi was remanded in custody and the case adjourned to the June session of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
