The Ulster-Scots Agency is hosting the seventh annual Ulster-Scots Heritage Day in Raphoe on Saturday 27th May.

The event is organised by the Ulster-Scots Agency, the cross-border body responsible for promoting all aspects of Ulster-Scots culture, language and heritage and has a regional office in William Street, Raphoe.

The Ulster-Scots Heritage Day will commence at 12 noon at the Royal & Prior School football pitch and will include the new Ulster-Scots traditional folk band, Elbowed Out. This will include a display by up to forty highland dancers, the international renowned drum major display, The Force, with compere on the day by Fermanagh comedian Gary Wilson.

The event will also include performances in the arena of several Donegal and Northern Ireland based pipe bands, who at 3pm will form a massed pipe band under the command of Pipe Major Alex Brown from Arranmore.

At 3.30pm the bands will take part in a parade of Raphoe led by the world-class drum majors’ display team. Children’s entertainment and food stalls will also be available at the football pitch.

Derek Reaney the Community Development Officer for the Ulster-Scots Agency said: “We previously organised the annual Ulster-Scots Heritage Day for six years before the Covid pandemic and after a three-year break, we decided to re-launch the event in May.

“In previous years we focused all the activities in the Diamond in Raphoe. However, this year the event will be held at the Royal & Prior School football pitch in order to reduce congestion in the town and to assist traffic management.”

Free car parking will be available at Raphoe Livestock Market and admission to the event is also free.
