National: Sadness as two motorcyclists killed in crashes

Two people have been killed following separate motorbike crashes overnight.

The tragedies claimed the lives of two men in Westmeath and Cork.

A man in his 20s died on the Dublin Road in Athlone at around 2.20am.

A man in his 20s was killed in a collision in the Kilmartins Roundabout area on the Dublin road in Athlone at around 2.20am this morning.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone travelling in the Kilmartins Roundabout area of Athlone between 2am and 2.30am and who may have video footage (including dash cam) to contact Athlone Garda Station on 090 649 2600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

Meanwhile, a man in his 40s died following a collision between a motorbike and a tractor at Gooseberryhill, Newmarket, at around 8.15pm last night.

The road remains closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users with video footage (including dash cam) and who were travelling in the Gooseberryhill area between 7.45pm and 8.30pm yesterday to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
