Majella (and the world) thanks Ryan Tubridy as he signs off from Late Late

Majella O’Donnell has thanked outgoing Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy for helping her through her cancer diagnoses and supporting her in her time of need.

Majella was one of Ryan’s guests on his last show last night as he signed off after a magnificent fourteen year stint on the show.

She said that without Ryan she could not have gone through with her amazing live television head-shave when she raised a staggering €600,000 for the Irish Cancer Society while going through her own cancer treatment back in 2013.

Majella said she was so emotional that she could not even have her family near her but trusted Ryan who even told her at the last moment that she did not have to go through it.

In an emotional moment, Majella told the host that she loved him and thanked him for all he had done for her.

Tubridy’s last show was a huge hit with a mix of ordinary people and huge stars saying a fond farewell Tubs who first appeared on the show as a skinny young boy reviewing books.

U2 presented Tubs with a Vespa with Bono declaring the south Dublin man was “more of a mod than a rocker.”

There were emotional moments too with Charlie Bird thanking Ryan for all he had done to help him through his battle with Motor Neurone disease.

There was an eclectic mix of music but Donegal was well-presented by Altan’s Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh and Clannad’s Moya Brennan with Moya even getting a chance to ask the presented some of her own questions!

Ryan concluded the show by thanking the people who mean most to him in this world – his family.

He fought back tears as he paid a special tribute to his two daughters as the lights dimmed on another chapter of Irish television history.

For all the millions he helped raised for charity and for all the smiles he brought with his Toy Shows at Christmas, Tubridy certainly deserves his place when a history of Irish television is written.
