A sponsored walk in memory of late Ballybofey businessman Liam Foy has raised €2,300 for Relay for Life.
Mr Foy, the founder of Foy & Company, passed away in July 2019.
April 21st 2023 would have been Liam’s 80th birthday. To celebrate his memory, his family, friends and staff did a walk at Glenveagh National Park on April 23rd.
Liam was a great supporter of Relay for Life Donegal for many years and loved to join the Foy & Company sponsored walks as well as the 24-hour event. This charity holds a special place in all of the hearts of the Foy & Company team.

Last month’s memorial walk was a hugely successful event with a great turnout from staff, family, customers and friends, in one of the most beautiful locations of Donegal.
Ena Barrett and Robert O’Connor from Relay for Life Donegal and Mary Friel, who is a committee member of Relay for Life Donegal and also a staff member in Foy & Company’s Furniture Department in Letterkenny, were delighted with the amount that was raised.

Speaking on behalf of Foy & Company, Ann Foy commented, “We were overwhelmed by the support, generous and kind donations received from our customers. to have raised €2300 is just overwhelming. We are extremely thankful and grateful to each and everyone of our customers. Relay for Life Donegal is a charity that all of our team were delighted to support and the help that is provided each year to so many people throughout the county by the Relay for Life Donegal Committee is unbelievable. We wish them well with this years Relay for Life, which takes place this weekend.”
Speaking on behalf of Relay For Life Donegal, Robert O’Connor said, “Relay for Life Donegal is a 24 hour, community celebration. A unique, empowering and fun event that has something for everyone, young and old alike. At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors and remember those who are no longer with us. Teams of people and individuals alike take turns walking around a track at The Atlantic Technical University in Letterkenny.
“Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the 24 hour event. Otherwise everyone is free to socialise, enjoy live entertainment and participate in lots of fun activities! When you Relay, you are supporting the provision of ongoing Irish Cancer Society Services throughout Donegal. Everyone in the community is invited to come along and experience this inspiring event of celebration and commemoration this Bank Holiday weekend.
“Two of the highlights during the Relay event are the Survivors’ Lap where we celebrate cancer survivorship and the Candle of Hope Ceremony, where we remember loved ones.
“We are so grateful to the staff at Foy & Company, Letterkenny and Ballybofey for doing this sponsored walk not only to remember Liam Foy and mark what would have been his 80th Birthday, but to help our endeavours to raise money to support Cancer patients in our county, cancer survivors and their families with ongoing supports and servicesl.”
