Donegal man found guilty over Strokestown attack

A Donegal man has been found guilty of an attack on security guards protecting a repossessed house near Strokestown, County Roscommon, in 2018.

Patrick Sweeney (44) of High Cairn, Ramelton, was one of three men convicted of multiple charges in connection with the “sustained and brutal” attack.

Martin O’Toole (58), of Stripe, Irishtown Claremorris, Co Mayo and 56-year-old Paul Beirne of Boyle, Co Roscommon, were also found guilty of 15 of the 17 charges they faced.

A fourth man, 43-year-old David Lawlor of Navan in Co Meath, has been found not guilty on all counts.

The three guilty men were remanded in custody for sentencing at the end of this month.
