Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC) has launched a campaign to encourage individuals to volunteer and join the committee of their local Day Care Centre.

By becoming a committee member, you can play a vital role in ensuring the continued success and growth of the centre, making a significant difference in the lives of the elderly in our community.

Day Care Centres for the elderly are essential pillars of our community, providing a safe and welcoming environment where seniors can gather, socialise, and participate in enriching activities. These centres promote social interaction, combat isolation, and contribute to the overall well-being of our elderly population.

“Voluntary committees are the backbone of our local Day Care Centres. Without their dedication, these centres wouldn’t be able to operate, and many committees are currently facing the risk of closure due to a lack of volunteers,” says Martin McDevitt, Assistant Community Development Manager at DLDC.

Day Care Centres offer a range of services tailored to the needs of older adults, including recreational programmes, educational opportunities, health and wellness activities, and assistance with daily living tasks. To ensure the future sustainability of your local Day Care Centre and uphold its role as a cornerstone of support and care in our community, DLDC is seeking volunteers with various skills and expertise, such as administration, IT, accounting, marketing, or law.

“Your unique skill set can help future-proof your local Day Care Centre, providing a dignified and respectful environment for our elderly. By becoming a committee volunteer, you will contribute to the well-being of our elderly residents and help secure the future of this important service,” added Martin.

In partnership with DLDC, Day Care Centres across Donegal have launched this recruitment campaign to recruit voluntary committee members to deliver essential services to our elderly community members. With as little as 3-4 hours of your time each month, you can make a meaningful impact and help shape the future of aging in your local community.

To learn more about how you can support your local Day Care Centre and ensure that growing old in your community is met with the dignity and respect it deserves—both now and in the future—please contact us at 074 91 270 56.
