Fourteen people were arrested for drink and drug driving offences in Donegal during the busy Bank Holiday weekend.
Twelve drunk drivers and two drug drivers were arrested between Friday and Monday, gardaí confirmed.
Another motorist was arrested for speeding in the Buncrana region last night.
Gardaí conducted high visibility checkpoints across the county over the June Bank Holiday weekend and fines were issued for a range of offences.
One of the most recent incidents took place last night, in which Buncrana Roads Policing Unit detected a motorist travelling at a speed of 139KPH in an area which the speed limit is 80KPH. The driver was arrested and charged to appear in Court.
Sergeant Charlene Anderson, speaking during this week’s community information appeal, urged drivers to always act responsibly.
Sgt Anderson said: “We ask people, in particular young people and everybody in general, not to get into a vehicle as a passenger if you think the driver may be under the influence or if you have any worries or anxieties in relation to driving a car.
“The Donegal Rally is on the horizon and we will be putting out road safety messages in the lead up to the event. We urge everybody to make road safety their top priority.”
