The Malin Head community is being asked to share their opinions at a Wave and Wind Energy Day event this week.
Researchers from UCC’s Environmental Research Institute and from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland will be in Malin Head on Thursday, the 15th of June, to host a gathering at the Community Hall.
Research fellows, including Dr Aaron Luke Smith, will explore some innovative technologies related to marine renewable energy (MRE) and ask about the risks that concern people most regarding community-owned windfarms (land-based).
The day will start at 9:30 with short presentations on the MRE innovations. These dialogues will focus on a new offshore wind turbine design and then move into a broader discussion about wave energy in general. We sincerely seek your opinions. This discussion will encompass the morning session and then they will break for lunch (provided free of charge).
After lunch, Peter Deeney, who spent 18 years in Malin Head, will be exploring and seeking people’s thoughts on the risks encountered by communities as they contemplate investing in land-based windfarms. The event should wrap-up by 2:30 pm.
Those who plan to attend are asked to fill out this short registration form to allow organisers to plan for lunch: https://forms.office.com/e/fgeVc0Q1kx.
