Top NI weather forecaster Barra Best tweeted: “Prepare for a heatwave next week, folks. Temperatures widely expected around the mid-20s across Ireland by day, with warm sticky nights. Some thunderstorms expected along with sunshine.”

Wednesday will be very warm or hot with hazy sunshine and a few heavy showers or thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 24 to 27 degrees.
Thursday and Friday will see little change, with very warm or hot conditions by day ( 24 to 27 degrees) and a few heavy showers or thunderstorms. Coastal areas will be slightly cooler due to sea breezes.
