GAA: Probe to be launched after serious incident at club match

The Donegal County Board is expected to launch an investigation into a serious incident which occurred during a senior club match at the weekend.

It has been alleged that a member of the Termon management team went on to the field during play and ‘clashed’ with an opposing Red Hugh’s player.

The incident is said to have occurred minutes from the end of Sunday’s Division 2 clash at Termon’s Burn Road, just after the player had been booked for a rash tackle.

A large melee ensued for several minutes and, once calm was restored, referee Anthony McCallig gave a straight red card to both the Termon official and the Red Hugh’s player.

The game, which the home side won 2-08 to 0-8 after being a point down at half-time, otherwise passed without incident.

The Donegal GAA Competitions Control Committee (CCC) deals with disciplinary matters that are reported to them.

When contacted for comment on yesterday evening, the Donegal PRO said they were not aware of the incident. However, a short-time later, the secretary of the CCC asked Donegal Daily if we had any evidence of the alleged incident.

Donegal Daily now understands that the CCC has received the referee’s report and that they have also requested video evidence.

When contacted today, a spokesperson for Red Hugh’s said they had no comment to make on the matter.

A spokesperson for the Termon club confirmed that the matter is currently being dealt with by the CCC.
