Ramelton residents invited to have their day on new flood relief scheme

Notice from Donegal County Council:

A Public Participation Event for Ramelton Flood Relief Scheme will take place on 21st June 2023 in Ramelton Town Hall.  The drop – in event will run from 4pm until 8pm.  No appointment necessary.

Members of the project team (from Donegal County Council, the Office of Public Works and consultants, Byrne Looby) are hosting the event.

The aim is to:

  • outline the flood risk to Ramelton from river and tidal flooding both now and under climate change scenarios;
  • gather the opinions of residents and stakeholders on how that flood risk should be managed into the future;
  • discuss potential options for flood relief.

A key objective of the project is to develop and design a Flood Relief Scheme that is technically, socially, environmentally and economically acceptable.

In doing this, the team place priority on accounting for local knowledge, the rich heritage in the area, nearby projects, and the sensitivities of the surrounding environment in reaching the Preferred Option.

We would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of the Ramelton Area to come along, meet the team and discuss possible Scheme options. It is vital that the public and in particular local residents including interested groups, societies, clubs and projects engage with the project at this crucial point in the flood relief scheme development.

When a preferred option has been identified, the project team will hold a public information event to let the public and stakeholders know how their input has been accounted for, before progressing to the statutory planning process.
