Another Donegal church has been targeted in an attempted theft of its donations boxes.

The latest burglary took place at St. Mary’s Church at Cockhill in Buncrana on Friday the 16th of June last.

Shortly after 2.40pm, two men entered the Chapel and took a seat in the back pew.

One of the men then got up and removed an item from a satchel bag that he was wearing and he used this item to try and fish money out of a charity donations box that is built into the wall.

It is unknown if money was taken from the box or not.

The two men then left on foot.

Gardai have released short descriptions of the two suspects.

The man with the satchel bag wore it with the strap across his body, he had dark short hair and was wearing a light blue shirt, blue jeans and white trainers. He was of a slim build.

The second man was of a slightly broader build, he wore a white shirt, blue jeans with rips in them, navy shoes with white soles and he had short brown hair with a short beard.

They were both aged in their late 40’s to early 50’s approximately.

This is the latest in a spate of thefts o donation boxes in churches across Donegal.

A Garda spokesperson said “We appeal to anybody who may have seen these two men in the area of the Cockhill road or at any location in the town to make contact with Gardaí.

“We are working on establishing their direction of travel and to obtain details of any mode of transport they may have had.

“If anybody can assist with this appeal in any way with information or with dash cam footage we ask them to contact Gardaí in Buncrana on 074-9320540.”
