Deputy Pearse Doherty has warned about significant delays in issuing and renewing passports.
His warning comes after Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Matt Carthy TD met with the passport office recently.
The Donegal TD said “As we enter into the summer months, my office has seen a huge increase in numbers of people finding that passports are out of date or that passport applications are taking longer than expected.
“In some cases, this has meant that people have had to miss holidays that they have booked or have had to rearrange their holiday for alternative dates.
“We have been raising concerns with the passport office over the last few months.
“In particular, we have been raising concerns about delays where the passport office have not been able to process applications in time despite applications being made on time.
“I urge people to check to see if passports are valid and to apply for a renewal at the first opportunity.”
