Fr Shaun Doherty will celebrate his first Mass in Derry this evening.
The Mass will take place in his home diocese of Derry at St Columb’s Church at 7.30pm.
Fr Doherty enjoyed a blessed day of celebrations on Sunday as he was ordained a priest at St Eugene’s Cathedral.
He later marked the occasion with family and friends at the IOSAS Centre & Celtic Prayer Garden in Muff. More than 400 people were in attendance to share their good wishes with Fr Doherty on the new chapter of his journey of faith.
Shaun Doherty was one of the country’s top DJs thanks to his popular chatshow on Donegal’s Highland Radio which aired for almost 30 years. Six years ago, he decided to embark on new projects and quit his job behind the microphone. But even family and friends were left shocked when Shaun announced that he was studying to become a priest.
Bishop Donal McKeown, speaking to Rev Doherty at Sunday’s ordination, said he could be a “fabulous advertisement for Jesus”.

The Columba House community shared a reflection on the day and said: “It was an honour to celebrate with Fr Shaun, his family, friends and so many loved ones from all colours of his life in such a sacred space and afterwards at the majestic IOSAS Centre & Celtic Prayer Garden for a wonderful welcome reception.
“A truly joyous occasion that we will hold in our hearts for many years to come as we testify to the goodness of God working in each of our lives.
“Fr Shaun will celebrate his first mass tonight in St Columb’s, Chapel Road at 7.30pm.
