A 41-year-old man has appeared in court in Cork charged with the murder of his wife on Friday.
The body of 38-year-old Deepa Dinamani was found in her home in the Wilton area following a serious assault.
Regin Parithapara Rajan was brought before a special sitting of Cork District Court this morning, charged with her murder.
Originally from India, Ms Dinamani was a chartered accountant and had been living at the house in Cardinal Court for several months with her husband and five-year-old child.
Detective Garda Alan Johnson told the court he arrested the accused early this morning at Togher Garda Station and charged him.
There was no reply to the charge.
There was no application for bail as bail cannot be granted in the district court on a murder charge.
The accused’s solicitor, Eddie Burke, asked for his client to be given any necessary medical attention while in custody.
Judge Olann Kelleher directed that this should happen.
Mr Burke also said his client had no means and no income and applied for legal aid, which was granted by Judge Kelleher.
Mr Rajan was remanded in custody to appear in court again on Thursday 20 July.
