Film fever in Donegal as actors arrive for exciting projects

Donegal is enjoying more movie action this summer as two projects get underway in the county.

Hollywood actors including Aidan Gillen have been spotted locally in West Donegal.

Meanwhile, film extras are being recruited in Inishowen, providing an opportunity for local people to appear on the big screen!

Filming for Trad is already well underway in the Gweedore area. Love/Hate and Game of Thrones star Aidan Gillen is starring in the feature film directed by Lance Daly (Black ‘47).

Gillen recently told Polish media that the story of Trad follows a group of kids who travel in a van around Ireland, playing traditional music.

When not working, the star has been spotted out and about in Crolly.

Gillen posed for a photo with the staff of Mace at O’Donnell Fuels earlier in the week (above). He was also pictured enjoying the atmosphere at the famous Leo’s Tavern with his Love/Hate co-star Peter Coonan.

Meanwhile, Malin Head is getting ready to host the cast and crew of Cry from the Sea.

The romantic drama starring Aidan Quinn will be filmed in Inishowen in August and September.

Directed by Vic Sarin (Partition, A Shine of Rainbows), Cry from the Sea is about a lighthouse keeper who lives disconnected and in conflict with the island locals due to a family tragedy which he blames on the community. As pressure mounts against him, he finds an unexpected ally in Edith (Beecham), a young American widow who has recently arrived on the island.

Donegal Film Office has been supporting both projects. This week they have shared a casting call for Cry from the Sea. Men aged 20-60 are being sought for minor roles, a 9/10-year-old boy is required for a speaking role and extras of all ages are needed for male and female roles.

Casting session will take place before end of July. See the poster for details:
