Another busy week for Buncrana Golf Club

It was another busy week for the members of Buncrana Golf Club.

Liam Hits Form

The competition last weekend was the W. P. Mc Carter Memorial, sponsored by the McCarter family and the weather conditions were more accustomed to Autumn than summer. This didn’t stop Liam Doherty (WB) from playing some of his best golf for a while as he shot a fantastic 45 pts on Sunday morning.

This is was much welcome Doherty return to form for Liam and easily secured first prize and in this form Liam will undoubtedly be looking forward to the remaining of the competition season. The full results of the W. P. Mc Carter Memorial Open Stableford played Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July are as follows:

  • Overall/Category 3: Liam Doherty (WB) (29) – 45 pts
  • Category 1: Michael King (12) – 42 pts
  • Category 2: Condy Quinn (18) – 41 pts
  • Gross: Damien Doherty (7) – 72 gross
  • Best Day (Saturday): James Caldwell (12) – 39 pts
  • Back 9: Andy Gormley (25) – 22pts b.o.t.

Upcoming fixtures

  • Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd July –Buncrana Amateur Boxing Club Open Stableford – sponsored by the Cottage Bar Buncrana
  • Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July – The Derek Smith Memorial Open Stableford -sponsored by Derek’s family
  • The Evan Doherty Milk singles match play is now in full swing and with the likes of Oliver Doherty yet to secure a win there promises to be some upsets in the qualifying stages. Anyone finding it difficult to arrange their respective match can contact the office for assistance. The deadline for the qualifying stages is Thursday 27th July
  • There will be an Open Juvenile Competition every Wednesday starting at 12 o’clock during the summer months. The entry fee will be €3 for members and €5 for visitors
  • The Juvenile Lessons commenced on Wednesday 12th July from 5:00 – 6:00 pm and will run for 4 consecutive weeks. Professional golfer Derek Morrison will deliver the lessons and the fee is €40for the 4 weeks, to be paid in advance.
