There are over 400 families from Ukraine seeking properties in Donegal, it has been revealed.

Donegal County Council is continuing to appealing for offers of houses, apartments, or holiday homes for use as temporary accommodation for refugees.

So far, sixty-one homes have been allocated under the government’s ‘offer a home’ scheme, housing 203 tenants. A further 12 properties are out to offer.

In total 319 homes have been offered since the scheme began.

Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh has encouraged property owners to offer up their vacant houses or holiday homes to the scheme.

He said: “The scheme does seem to be working and we are doing reasonably well in the county and I welcome that.

“It’s worth getting the word out that if there are people that have something available on a temporary basis.”

A monthly flat rate of €800 per property is payable to all those hosting people from Ukrainian benefitting from temporary protection.

Property owners can offer homes at www.OfferAHome.ie or by contacting the council at offerahome@donegalcoco.ie
