New Letterkenny adventure park on track for August completion

A new Urban Adventure Sports area is almost complete in Letterkenny’s Bernard Mc Glinchey Town Park.

The park is scheduled to be completed in August 2023, all going well.

The new space will provide for adventure-type sports, including a pump track for BMX biking and a climbing frame.

It also includes an outdoor covered stage with tiered seating for public events and exhibitions.

The project has been developed to engage marginalised and disadvantaged young people who are not into mainstream sports, providing a space for them to hang out.

The programme is a collaboration between Donegal Sports Partnership, Donegal County Council, Gartan Outdoor Adventure Centre and the many youth organisations both statutory and community supporting youth in Letterkenny.

Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh requested an update on the project this week, to which the council replied that there are currently two contractors carrying out work at the park. Both contractors are expected to be finished in about 3 weeks.

Last year, over 100 young people joined a taster session of the park’s facilities.
