Donegal is set to welcome yet another film crew this year as plans for a new TV series are unveiled.

‘Saor Sin Ó Olc’, an Irish-language crime drama, will be filmed in Gweedore this October.

The story is set in a coastal Connemara village focusing on the discovery of a local woman’s body who has been missing for 20 years.

The programme was written by Doireann Ní Chorraigáin, Richie Conroy and Eoin Mac Diarmada and produced by Darach Ó Tuairisg for Fíbín Media.

The programme is one of five young and contemporary drama series selected by TG4 in 2021 for development, supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland. The series will be aimed at a younger audience under 35 to attract a new and diverse generation of TG4 drama enthusiasts.

Donegal is enjoying plenty of film action this summer, with stars spotted in various locations.

Filming for Trad is already well underway in the Gweedore area. Love/Hate and Game of Thrones star Aidan Gillen is starring in the feature film directed by Lance Daly (Black ‘47). Meanwhile, Malin Head is getting ready to host the cast and crew of Cry from the Sea. The romantic drama starring Aidan Quinn will be filmed in Inishowen in August and September.

Experienced crew members, trainees and new entrants are being sought to get involved with ‘Saor Sin Ó Olc’ from September 2023.

The production office will be based in Gweedore and applicants must live within a 45km radius.

Donegal Film Office is assisting in the search for team members. See details below:
