Donegal County Council has contacted Government agencies with a view to seeking compensation for householders and businesses hit by this weekend’s flooding in East Donegal.
Many homes and local businesses in a number of villages and towns including Raphoe, Convoy, Killygordon and Castlefin are counting the cost of flooding which struck on Saturday.
The Council has been in contact with The National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management today advising them of these flooding incidents.
A spokesperson said “This is in relation to potential assistance available from the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Enterprise Trade & Employment to assist, respectively, householders and businesses affected by this and which may be eligible for assistance under these schemes.”
It is expected that details in relation to any funding will be available on Monday 24th July.
Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Martin Harley acknowledged the response from the Council’s Fire, Civil Defence & Roads services.
He also noted the huge community response locally to the flooding incidents.
Councillor Harley said his thoughts and best wishes were with all of those affected by these flooding incidents and advised that the Council would do everything possible to assist.
