A man in his 50s has died after being struck by a lorry on the M6 motorway in Athenry.
The man had exited his vehicle following a single-vehicle collision this morning at 5am.
He was then tragically struck by a lorry and died at the scene.
His body has been removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem will take place in due course.
Gardaí have confirmed that the lorry driver, a man in his 50s, was uninjured.
A technical examination of the scene is ongoing by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators this morning and the road at Ballygarraun West remains closed with local diversions in place.
