Funding has been secured to fix frequent busts and water outages in Raymoghy, Rossbracken and surrounding areas of Manorcunningham.
Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has welcomed the news that work is due to get underway in November and continue until April 2024.
2.6km of mains infrastructure will be replaced to address the high number of mains bursts impacting the area over the past two years.
Residents were plagued by issues at the busiest times. They lost water supply on Christmas Day 2021, New Year’s Day 2023, St Patrick’s Day and Easter Sunday this year.
Cllr Kelly said that families’ frustrations will finally be eased.
“This is absolutely brilliant news for the people of Manorcunningham,” Cllr Kelly said.
“Since I took my seat I have been pushing hard on behalf of the residents in these areas to have the infrastructure that is not fit for purpose replaced.
“I finally in May of this year got Irish Water to commit to submitting an application for funding to have the infrastructure replaced to have these issues addressed once and for all.
“I have since then been keeping a close eye on this application to try to ensure it’s successful.
“Last Saturday I even travelled to Co Sligo to a conference to highlight and follow up on this issue and other issues face-to-face with Irish Water officials.”
Cllr Kelly added: “I want to thank the people of Mannorcunnigham for their support and help in playing a vital role in helping secure this funding and very importantly I want to thank the people affected for their patience.
“I’m delighted for them all that this is now progressing to the next level to having these ongoing issues resolved once and for all. This is a great news story.”
