The Buncrana Golf Club results and fixtures are out.

Ciaran Harvey Takes Derek Smith Memorial

The competition last weekend was the Derek Smith Memorial Open Stableford which was sponsored by the Smith Family. The weather last weekend was nothing short of terrible, but it didn’t stop the golfing fraternity from turning out in force, a testament of the high Esteem Derek was held in by all the golfers. With the difficult weather conditions, the scoring was always going to be hard with only 5 players breaking 40 pts and only 12 in total hitting 36 pts or better.

This didn’t stop Ciaran Harvey (13) from playing some excellent golf to shoot a 74 gross to secure first prize with 41 pts. This was Ciaran’s maiden victory at the club and if he continues to play this standard of golf it will not be his last. Pauric O’Flaherty (2) who played on Sunday morning shot a very impressive -1 under gross score to take the gross prize with a 65 gross.

Derek’s son Gavin (22) managed to secure his category prize with an impressive 38 pts and a special thanks is given to Owen Doherty (M) who sponsored Category 2 and Martin Barber who sponsored Category 3. The full results of the Derek Smith Memorial Open Stableford played Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July are as follows:

  • Overall/Category 1: Ciaran Harvey (13) – 41 pts
  • Category 2: Condy Quinn (18) – 37 pts
  • Category 3: Gavin Smith (22) – 38 pts
  • Gross: Pauric O’Flaherty (2) – 65 Gross
