Five suspects have been arrested following a series of car thefts in the Letterkenny area.

There has been a notable rise in the theft of Japanese imported vehicles this summer.

In a number of cases, the cars have been stolen and later found abandoned or burnt out.

Just last week, a 2014 white Toyota Corolla estate was taken from a business premises on the Pearse Road. It was located on the Crieve Road at Oldtown on fire and was totally destroyed.

Garda Sergeant Charlene Anderson has today confirmed that five people have been arrested and are now before the courts.
