Letterkenny man Don Ponsonby is putting a kind-hearted twist to his upcoming birthday.
Don, from Oldtown, turns the big 7-0 this month.
The well-known musician has decided to throw a party with friends from the local music scene performing at the Clanree Hotel on the 21st of August.
Instead of presents, Don is asking that guests make a donation to the Donegal Hospice, a charity that is close to his heart.
Don’s brother Paul received wonderful care at the Hospice before he sadly passed in 2012, aged 60. He was a great character and a keen biker.
In memory of Paul, and in gratitude to the Hospice, Don has planned a party like no other.
Don, who drums with the Mindbenders, has a great line-up of bands to keep partygoers dancing all night long. Martin Orr, Paul Kelly Band, Mark Black Band and many more singers and surprise guests will be on stage.
Everyone is welcome to attend and make a donation at the door. There will also be a draw for a fantastic hamper. Guests can buy tickets by Revolut, or on the night.
“I’m looking forward to a night out,” says Don. “My health is good, I’m still playing music, and now it’s time to have a bit of fun.”
Don’s 70th birthday begins at 8pm, Monday 21st August at the Clanree Hotel Letterkenny.
