Locals in east Donegal have expressed shock and anger after a scenic picnic area was vandalised with graffiti during the week.
Pro IRA slogans were daubed over the recently upgraded Gort Scith amenity, between Stranorlar and Killygordon. It is believed the incident took place some time on Tuesday night, or earlier.
Spokesman for the local community group, Frank Kelly, has urged anyone with information to come forward. A used can of ‘Paint Factory Colour It’ furniture spray (below) was found discarded nearby.

One of the spray cans found nearby.
“To say we are shocked to find this done to our lovely amenity at Gort Scith, is putting it mildly,” Mr Kelly said.
This facility was enhanced just recently with support from Donegal County Council, BASICC and locals and is used widely by residents of the entire Finn Valley area as well as visitors and tourists.
“Wouldn’t it be just great if we could find those who did this,” Mr Kelly added.
“So, we are asking you to like and share in the hope that someone will notice maybe a familiar writing or other clue. We think it was done sometime maybe Tuesday night or earlier. They obviously had access to several spray paints, so maybe someone will notice something familiar – anything.”
Similar graffiti was also daubed on a new solar bin at Drumboe Woods this week.
